Summer Memories

I cant say I watched a whole lot of baseball at the Jays vs Tigers game in Detroit on Sunday but I did have a lot of fun watching my kids take in the excitement of their first professional baseball game. We went with Tyler's family for my brother-in-laws birthday and we had such a fun day. We watched a little bit of baseball, ate some really yummy food and rode the rides with the kids.

When we were at the top of the ferris wheel, we could hear the announcers of the game perfectly over the speakers. The sound of baseball over the radio brings me back to summertime as a child. It is a defining memory for me when it comes to summer. Driving in the car to the cottage, with the windows down, everyone almost asleep, dad driving and listening to the baseball game on the radio as the summer air swept through our car. Whenever I hear a baseball game through the muffle of a speaker, I am taken back to those days.

Now I get to create summer memories with my children. I wonder what will stick out for them?

After the game on Sunday, all the kids were invited to run the bases, I captured that moment in the video below.

Lake Life

Thank you mom and dad for giving our family a lake life. I appreciate our cozy cottage home on a street that leads to the beach. My childhood summers were sand and sunsets, a warm place to sit and dream and a place that calms my soul. Every time I dive into the water I feel refreshed! You didn't just give us the lake life, you have blessed us for generations to come. We have lake water in our veins, it's who we are, the lake is our life.

Currently Singing | Joshua Micah - Who Says?

Do you ever wake up singing a song and it sticks in your head for a few days. Maybe it's just a catchy tune but I always think it's a message from God. A little note He tucked inside your mind, kinda like that little note your mom may have tucked inside your lunch box as a kid.

The last few days I have been singing the song linked below, the line that's been running through my mind is "who says you have to have it all figured out". Oh my goodness, I am always trying to figure things out and make plans so far in advance. Gods in control, His plan is the best and often it's different than what I had planned.

I'm currently rocking out to this song (dance party) throwing my hands up to God and enjoying all the gifts He has in store for me today.

Sarnia Fashion Week

On the weekend Tyler and I attended the 3rd annual Sarnia Fashion Week held on Lochiel st in downtown Sarnia. The event is a concert and fashion show, with a mix of dance performance entertainment between fashion sets. The event is in support of Do It For Sarnia, a local charity working to raise awareness and funds for mental health.

As we walked down Christina street toward the event, Eric Ethridge already had the party started and we could feel the positive energy. Walking into the event, we ran into lots of friends who were all looking fabulous, everyone was dressed to impress, proving Sarnia's fashion scene is on the rise.

Some fashion trends that I noticed were lace, bell sleeves and sheer pants with shorts underneath. It was so fun to check out everyones outfits and snap pictures together. As I chatted with friends throughout the night, it was unanimous, we are proud to be a part of the Sarnia community and its growing fashion, event and tourism culture.

I walked away from the event feeling proud to be a Lambton County resident and look forward to next years Sarnia Fashion week.

Beach Nights

The last two Sundays we headed to Canatara beach for a late day splash and we have been loving ending our weekends like this. I have always loved living near the beach but I don't think I fully appreciated our easy access to the water until the last few years. 

I just want to soak up all the summer sweetness that I can. If we don't get organized until 4pm, who cares, throw the kids, towels and chips in the car and lets get to the shore.

Who else is so excited that summer is here and ready to soak up the sun?

Swim Through Spring

Spring is pretty much here, yahoo! We are enjoying the warmer temps (when they decide to show up), even if its a little grey out and we are looking forward to summer! I am so excited to see Luke at the beach this year, I know he is going to be a little fish. We have been swimming all winter at the Oil Heritage District Community Centre and I know that has helped Luke to grow more and more comfortable in the water. We still have a few months to go before the lake is warm enough for us to swim in so we will continue to swim indoors until then, check out the pool schedule here. Even if it is a super sunny spring day, I never feel like I am missing out on those rays because of the beautiful floor to ceiling windows in the aquatics area. When the weather is warmer we love to go for a walk in downtown Petrolia after, to grab a coffee and check out the deals at the Family Discount Store (or what my mother in law refers to as the "Push-n-Shove".

I grew up down the street from the lake, my summers were spent in bathing suites and bare feet and I have an amazing respect for the water because of that upbringing. I always wanted Luke to love the water and to never be afraid of it so he could truly enjoy it as well. I know because he was introduced to the water at the OHDCC at just two months old, he has developed a love for water play too.
