Shops @ 155 Front

Last weekend I attended a fashion event at Shops @ 155 Front with my friend Rachel. We were greeted with goodies, refreshments and excited business owners as we walked into the building.

The fashion show started with Esby and Soph. The clothes were cute and the models even cuter. If you have never been into Esby and Soph, they have really cool children's clothing and unique items to make a parents life more stylish and functional.

Next we got to see fashions from One Tooth in action on women of all shapes and sizes. They have everything from your basic black yoga gear to extremely stylish fitness clothing that could take you from the yoga mat to a coffee date! They are even carrying jeans now!

The event was hosted at Inner Dawn Yoga, my favourite yoga studio in Sarnia! I have been out of my yoga routine for awhile but being in that space was calling me back to my mat. I hope to get to the stroga (stroller yoga) classes Lisa is teaching this spring/summer in the park. You can check out her full schedule here - online IDY class schedule

What I loved most about this event was the passion I witnessed from the business owners. As they talked about their businesses, products and services, I couldn't help but get excited along with them. Our downtown has some amazing businesses working hard to bring our community unique items that enhance our lives in many ways. I encourage you to give a little extra thought next time your in need of something and learn about what is available to you locally, I promise the product quality and experience will never disappoint.

Our locally owned businesses also care about our community and work hard to give back. Next week Inner Dawn Yoga is hosting a karma yoga class in support of One Spark during First Friday at 5:30pm. The class is free to the public with donations at the door going to support the work of One Spark. One Spark's goal is to eliminate obstacles to financial sustainability for women facing violence. We believe that increasing opportunities for women to achieve financial security is a critical component of supporting the transition to a violence free life.

Next Friday is First Friday and there is going to be a ton of fun stuff going on downtown. I hope to see you at the Inner Dawn Yoga karma class or pop in later to say hi and learn a little more about One Spark as I will be hanging out all night.

Peace

Sin Separates

I was wrestling with some stuff last month, basically I did something I knew I shouldn't have done.

I'm going to side step for a moment here, the more I get to know God and who I am in Him, the clearer it becomes to me the direction I should be going with my life. I am aware when God is telling me "thats not a good idea" but in this specific situation I was like "well God what if this" and tried to rationalize my choice. In the end, God was right and I took the hard road by not listening to Him in the first place.

Sometimes it feels like I am giving something up or giving in on something when I try to obey Gods will for my life but thats only because my perspective of Gods plan is so narrow. I believe just like we as parents guide our children from danger, God does the same for us. You know as a parent your child is not going to be happy with your decision but you know its the best choice for them.

So what happens when I do what I know I am not suppose to do? It makes it hard for me to hang with my Heavenly Father because I am filled with guilt. I don't feel worthy to be in His presence so I stay away and then things just get messier because I am really no good without Him. Eventually I confess and work with Him to fix my mess but all that time, trouble and mixed emotions could have been avoided if I just did things His way in the first place.

Lucky for you and I our Heavenly Father is awesome, forgiving and a professional at using everything we are for His glory, even our messes.

Today I am grateful for forgiveness and a Heavenly Father that chases after me to bring me back in, when I have stepped away, a Heavenly Father that does not keep a record of my mistakes and wipes away my sins as soon as I ask for His forgiveness. Redemption is an amazing gift that allows me to move forward as a child of The One True King!

Amen!

Summer Daze

Its about that time of year when I allow myself to day dream about the long hot days of summer. After the weather over the weekend and the sunshine again today how can I not think about dipping my toes in the water. I love all four seasons that we get to experience here in Ontario and I am always ready for the changes each one brings with it.

I am excited for beach days, bonfires, road trips and time on the water. I love back porch coffees on warm sunny mornings and late night walks as the sun goes down. Summertime when the living is easy, is right! Its just a laid back kinda feel in every way and I am ready for those summer time vibes!

What are you dreaming about as you wait for summer to fully arrive?

Luke Lately

I love the way you say please and thank you.

I love the way we watch dad leave for work from the front window.

I love your chubby little knees and how they bow in a little towards each other.

You love to be naked!

You still love cheese.

You need us to "hop hop hop" your bites toward your mouth to get you to eat sometimes.

When I tell you to watch out for cars you stop and crouch down where you are to look both ways.

When your aunts and uncles are around you would prefer they help you with tasks like getting dressed or playing with certain toys.

Your dad loves to rock you to sleep every night.

Your the best adventure we have ever known and you get better everyday.

I love you to the moon and back!
Mom

Special Event Skincare Prep

I have said this before, but it doesn't matter how much makeup we apply to our skin, if we don't take care of our skin our makeup will never look as good as it could. As you prepare for your wedding, prom, big event or simply want to improve the appearance of your skin, here are the basics and some of my favourite skincare lines for your unique skin type.

The Basics

Cleanse - use in the evening to remove makeup and pollutants collected on the skin throughout the day.

Tone - use morning and evening after cleansing or showering, to balance skins PH and tighten pores.

Day Cream - use in the morning to hydrate and protect skin.

Night Cream - use in the evening to hydrate and regenerate the skin.

Eye Cream - use in the evening to specifically hydrate the delicate eye area and correct the appearance of aging.

Exfoliate - use one to two times a week to renew skin cells allowing all other products to penetrate deeper into the skin.

Mask - use one to two times a week after exfoliating to correct oil or hydration in your skin, based on your needs.

Featured Skin Care Lines

Improvement/Vegan - Arbonne RE9 Advanced
This product line works to actively renew skin cells revealing a more youthful complexion with fruit acids and strengthens skin with ingredients like collagen.

For Sensitive - Vichy LiftActiv Anti-Aging Routine
This line is gentle enough for the most sensitive skin types and works to reduce redness and other signs of aging.

Youthful - Caryl Baker Visage Vitamin C Line
A refreshing product line that leaves skin feeling rejuvenated and glowing. Vitamin C improves the appearance of the skins surface, while working as an antioxidant to fight pollutants in the atmosphere.

If you have any questions about a skincare line that will help to improve your skin and get you special event ready, I would love to hear from you, please comment below.

Girl Date

What do you like to do on a girl date? My best friend and I love to eat! Meg and I have a lot of things in common but I would say one thing we have most in common, is our appetite and desire to try new foods. Meg has a slightly more adventurous palette than I do but for the most part I can keep up.

We have lived in different cities for years now and really have to schedule time together to keep our friendship strong. I believe all relationships require effort to keep on the right path. With where we are both currently at, London works great for a meeting place to grab a meal and do a little exploring. During our last date we had lunch at Garlics of London and then strolled the Covent Market, both were an awesome food experience and gave us lots of time to chat and catch up.

Sometimes it can be a bit of challenge to make these get togethers happen and I am sure this wont change as we get older and our schedules continue to fill but their value to me is priceless. There are certain things that can only be discussed between the girls and womanhood is a team sport that requires lots of support.

We ate, we talked, we laughed and we made some great memories. Next time we visit London where should we eat? And what do you like to do on a girl date?

xoxo

Swim Through Spring

Spring is pretty much here, yahoo! We are enjoying the warmer temps (when they decide to show up), even if its a little grey out and we are looking forward to summer! I am so excited to see Luke at the beach this year, I know he is going to be a little fish. We have been swimming all winter at the Oil Heritage District Community Centre and I know that has helped Luke to grow more and more comfortable in the water. We still have a few months to go before the lake is warm enough for us to swim in so we will continue to swim indoors until then, check out the pool schedule here. Even if it is a super sunny spring day, I never feel like I am missing out on those rays because of the beautiful floor to ceiling windows in the aquatics area. When the weather is warmer we love to go for a walk in downtown Petrolia after, to grab a coffee and check out the deals at the Family Discount Store (or what my mother in law refers to as the "Push-n-Shove".

I grew up down the street from the lake, my summers were spent in bathing suites and bare feet and I have an amazing respect for the water because of that upbringing. I always wanted Luke to love the water and to never be afraid of it so he could truly enjoy it as well. I know because he was introduced to the water at the OHDCC at just two months old, he has developed a love for water play too.

I invite you to experience the Oil Heritage District Community Centre for the first time or visit it again. Print out the coupon below for a complimentary day pass to The Centre.
