Happy Halloween

I have always loved celebrating the little and big holidays, creating traditions and sprucing up my home with decor that matches the season. Now that we have Luke, these things are even more fun because we are working on creating memories that will form his childhood. Tyler and I will of course have a different perspective on these memories compared to Luke's but I do believe that the little things are what make a big difference.

Even though at the time, it seems silly to carve a pumpkin with a one year old who doesn't want to touch the pumpkin, becomes distracted from the task at hand within minutes and then one parent ends up carving the pumpkin while the other watches the child, its still creating family memories that I will cherish.

I honestly enjoy the excitement around all holidays and getting in the spirit with festive activities leading up to the main event. Sometimes it feels like work to get motivated to do these things and when they don't go as planned I wonder if it was worth it. Then I remind myself that in the imperfection will come the true memories, stories and family legacies.

Cheers to all the parents who pack up their kids for crazy trips, expose them to as much as they can and work hard to create family traditions that develop lasting memories, your doing parenthood like a boss!

Weekend witches friends, Happy Halloween!

xoxo

BB Cream vs CC Cream

I often get asked what the difference between a BB Cream and CC cream is. I knew that the BB Cream was the lighter version of the two complexion products but I was unsure of the specific differences. I did a little research and thought I would share my findings with you.

The Difference Between a BB Cream and a CC Cream.

CC Cream (Colour Correcting Cream)
  • Heavier than a BB Cream in terms of coverage.
  • Great for people looking to correct sun spots, dark circles and redness.
  • Lighter than a traditional foundation.
  • Often leaves the skin with a dewy finish.
I would recommend this product for someone wanting to even their skin tone but not have the feeling of a foundation.

BB Cream (Beauty Balm)
  • Lighter than a CC Cream but heavier than a Tinted Moisturizer.
  • This formula contains numerous skin conditioning and protecting ingredients.
  • Often contains sunscreen.
  • Often includes ingredients to specifically moisturize the skin.
  • Often includes ingredients that assist with anti aging.
I would recommend this product to someone who wants very minimal coverage and is more concerned with having a makeup base product that includes ingredients that are working to do good things for their skin.

These beauty products are still very similar and the specifics of their formulations will vary based on the brand so review the specific ingredients before you purchase. Generally speaking though, if you are looking for a lightweight foundation a BB Cream or CC Cream is a good option for you. In my experience these formulas blend well with skin tones, save you time by applying multiple layers at once and feel lighter on the skin than a traditional liquid foundation.

I would love to know your beauty questions, comment below, on my Facebook page, Tweet me or comment on one of my Instagram photos.

Last Saturday I went to Ulta to get a few things for my makeup kit. I am not going to lie, one of the perks of being a makeup artist is shopping for products for my kit!

In this video I share my haul and why these products are important to my makeup kit. I will be reviewing them in an upcoming post.

I really appreciate the time you spend hanging with me on YouTube, have an amazing weekend!

Sarnia Modern Women's Show 2015

On Saturday October 2 I was a part of the Sarnia Modern Women's Show. The event was a trade show geared towards women in Lambton County, with proceeds at the door being donated to Noelles Gift.

This was my first trade show as a business owner. I had worked trade show booths for previous employers but I wasn't sure what to expect working the show as H.A.L. Makeup Artistry. My sister Emily gave up her Saturday to work with me that day. She has a busy schedule and Saturday is her only day off but she said yes to standing with me for 6 hours for the simple payment of me buying her lunch.

The energy for this show was flowing for months prior to the event. The event coordinators worked tirelessly to encourage and motivate the vendors, providing us with constant inspiration for making our booth awesome.

During set up on Friday night, it was clear they had put the work into the details as everything was running smooth. As a team on Saturday morning, we were cheered on by each other and the event organizers. We were not competing for business that day, we were there as a united group of female entrepreneurs showing Lambton County women a good time and what powerful women really look like!

The moment the doors opened on Saturday morning there was a buzz in the building, one that continued until the doors closed and carried on into feedback recieved for days after the show.

The powerful women I know build each other up, work for a greater good and care about their clients. It was a pleasure to be a part of this show in support of a great cause and I can not wait for next year!

Luke Lately - Micro Fashion

Oh Luke, you just get better by the day. If possible I think you are getting cuter and you are definitely getting smarter! It is so cool to see you learn new things and watch your personality develop. I am literally watching you grow in front of my eyes. As I peek in on you sleeping before I go to bed, I take mental notes about how you use to be able to lay sideways in your bed without bending your legs. Now your legs bend and your feet sometimes stick out between the crib bars.

One cool thing about you getting bigger is that we can really have fun with your clothes. Ever since you could stand I felt more excited to step up your fashion game.

While I love to shop and dress Luke in super cute clothes, I do not go crazy spending money. I pick and choose when to splurge and when to save. I get a lot of items at the Sarnia Goodwill, did you know baby clothes there are $1 and some children's items are only $2! I also love H&M and Joe Fresh.

Anyways, Luke's fashion game is on the rise and I am having so much fun with it. Here are some of my favourite looks from the last few weeks.

A Family Legacy

Psalm 112:2 Their children will be mighty in the land; the generation of the upright will be blessed.

It has taken me a few days to settle my mind enough to write this post as my thoughts have been circling around my family and how I might put my thoughts into words that will make sense. Blogging and sharing on social media isn't for everyone but for me it is therapeutic. I have found comfort in reading so many posts from other people all over the world, who have had similar experiences to myself, and because they shared their story, I didn't feel alone. I also think its pretty cool that one day, generations beyond my own will be able to read my blog and know more about their roots. On with the story.

Last week my Grandma Brown passed away, I left her funeral with a sense of peace and pride for the woman I called Grandma. John called her wife, many called her friend, some called her sister and a lot called her mom, above all of these titles she was a woman of God. A woman with an unshakable faith that has left a legacy for so many to take pride in.

In the bible their are many stories about family lineage and the family legacy that ancestors leave for their descendants. One of which is that the descendants of the faithful will be blessed. I believe that my Grandma Brown has left our family with the legacy of faith. Because of her faith in the Lord we have been given a clear example (our blessing) of Gods abundant blessings in ones life, who chooses to body follow God.

Her life was not perfect nor easy at times but she would tell you that through it all God was with her and He blessed her, even in those trying times. There are a few pivotal moments in my Grandma's adult life that will forever define her faith in my mind. One of which I would like to share; When I was one, my grandpa suffered a head injury changing him for the rest of his life. The man my grandma married was not who he use to be and against the recommendations of medical staff, she brought him home to live with her instead of having him cared for in a brain injury facility. She had no experience caring for someone in his condition and had no certainty as to how far he would recover but her dedication to marriage and strength in the Lord allowed her to care, love and nurture her marriage for 17 more years with my grandpa.

Her legacy of faith in The Lord is something she worked at everyday and something that I intend on carrying on. Knowing God is the greatest gift anyone can give because through Him we can do all things.

Prayer: Lord, make my faithful, bold, graceful, obedient and joyful like my Grandma Brown and help me to carry on her beautiful legacy so generations to come will know You! Thank You for her legacy!

I am grateful.
